SNAPSHOT - DOM GRAZIANO
Occupation: Proprietor, owner, manager, and "go-fer" for Newtown Package
Store, LLC, since July 26 when I closed on the business. I've been in sales my
entire adult life. Previous to this, I lost four jobs in six years. I was
always top salesman; it was a sign of the times, "down-sizing" or
"right-sizing," whatever the companies decide to call it. I was one of the
baby boomers getting squeezed out. I decided enough was enough; I needed to
take control of my own destiny and... work for myself. And this opportunity
came about as a result of the previous owner's passing. So here I am.
Family: I am married, going on 28 years, to Joanna, who is administrative
director of Primary Care in Danbury; we have four children, Carrie, Kevin,
Paula, and Scott.
Organizations/clubs: All my previous affiliations are associated with my
previous experience. I was past president of Connecticut Floor Covering
Association, and the Elks Club.
Hobbies: The store has become my hobby. I used to play all sports, golf, and
do photography. Now I have no time.
Favorite alcoholic drink: I'm not a big drinker, but when I do drink, I drink
Beer - Molson Golden. What I will be developing as a favorite drink is wine.
Wine is the strength of the business. You have to know your wine, and to know
your wine, you have to drink wine.
What do you like best about Newtown: The people. I live in Southbury. When I
decided to do something, it had to be the right town, the right store. I was
born and raised in Waterbury and wanted a more upscale community. I relate to
Newtown as being comparable to Southbury in many ways. The people have been
wonderful, and I've had a smooth transition. People have remained moderately
loyal to me - that's one of the things I admire about the town and why I
wanted to business with this town.
Personal philosophy: Very simple: family values, common sense, and
communications are the key to a good life.
