FAIRFIELD â Dr Paula E. Hyman will be the guest speaker at Fairfield Universityâs Judaic Studies Lecture Series on Wednesday, October 17, at 7:30 pm in the universityâs Charles F. Dolan School of Business. Her topic will be âConfronting Otherness: Jewish Women in Preholocaust Poland.â
Dr Hyman is the Lucy Moses Professor of modern Jewish history and the chairperson of the Judaic studies program at Yale University. A graduate of both Hebrew College of Boston and Radcliffe College, she received a masterâs degree and PhD from Columbia University, where she taught Jewish history for several years.
A specialist in the modern period, Dr Hyman has devoted her research to two areas, the history of French Jewry and Jewish womenâs history. She is the author of several books, the latest, The Jews of Modern France, was published in 1998. She is also co-editor of the two-volume Jewish Women in America: An Historical Encyclopedia, which received the Dartmouth Medal Award and the Barbara Dobkin Award in Jewish Womenâs Studies from the National Jewish Book Awards.
Dr Hymanâs lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are suggested.
