SNAPSHOT: JANE HELLMAN

Occupation: I am a professional interior designer by education and training. I

worked for over 25 years in the interior design field. Recently, I started my

Pudelz business. I create or have manufactured gifts and accessories for

poodle lovers. I sell through a mail order catalog and go to poodle specialty

shows. I have a bachelor's of fine arts in interior design from the University

of Denver.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown since 1991. I was born and raised

in New York City. About 17 years ago, I bought a weekend house in Milford,

then in Oxford. I then sold the Oxford house and moved to Newtown and gave up

my apartment in New York City.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: There is a tremendous amount of building of real

humongous houses and lots of new subdivisions.

Family: I am single.

Pets: I have three standard poodles, Maerose, Sophia and Bella, and two

Tonkinese cats, Mikko and Spike.

Hobbies: I have an eclectic variety of hobbies. I train dogs and like doing

fun things with dogs. I do pet therapy at Ashlar of Newtown two hours a week.

I am also a collector of things, such as poodle figurines, hankies, and

playing cards. Most are from the 1960s and earlier. I also collect Hall China

teapots and kitchen ware. It's colorful and has interesting designs. I have

redesigned my house for my copious collections. I collect stamps and like to

garden. I love flowers but they have to be relatively maintenance free because

I don't have a lot of time.

Favorite Authors: I like to read, but again, don't have much time. I read

magazines in my fields of interest. I also like biographies and

autobiographies. I love books on tapes because I'm always in the car. They

have helped capture time for me.

Organizations: I have been a professional member of the International Interior

Design Association since the 1970s.

Favorite Vacation Spot: I have several favorites. I love Italy. In winter, any

warm spot is my favorite. I like to go away with the dogs. They love to

travel. We visit friends who have poodles and live near state parks in

Massachusetts.

Personal Philosophy: I believe that what goes around comes around. You should

treat people the way you want to be treated. Also, very important, we need to

take a little time for ourselves and smell the roses. I am surrounded by

wonderful people and nice things, and that's very important to me.
