Occupation: I have been a dental hygienist since graduating college. I enjoy
the work as well as the contact with the public. People are so interesting;
when patients come into the office, I have many one-on-one conversations.
Family: My husband, David, and I have two daughters, Diana and Paula. Diana,
13, is a seventh-grader at Newtown Middle School; Paula, 11, is in the fifth
grade at Hawley Elementary School.
Pets: Kate, a collie, is a wonderful companion.
How long in Newtown: We have lived in Newtown for 13 years.
Biggest Change in Town: The biggest change has been the increase of families.
As more young people have moved into town, the building has been phenomenal.
Hobbies: I get physical exertion throughout the year; in the summer, I swim
and in the winter, I ski. I also capture special moments with my family on
film, especially when we're away on trips. Right now, we're working our way
through New England.
Books: I read a variety of genres, but I especially appreciate the mystery.
Mary Higgins Clark's I'll Be Seeing You, which was based in Newtown, is a
favorite as well as the works of John Grisham.
Movies: My daughters and I have been swept away by Titanic. When we visited my
parents in Tampa, Fla., we saw a Titanic exhibition at the Tampa Bay Science
Museum. I remember a bouquet of 86 roses, marking the 86th anniversary of the
ship's sinking. Walking through the exhibit took us back in time and made us
feel as though we were on board the ship. I suppose the reason that it was
such a tragedy was because so many families were completely destroyed.
Organizations: I am the leader of two Girl Scout Troops, Cadet Troop 656 and
Junior Troop 314. I enjoy helping girls connect with nature and become a part
of their surroundings. There is so much to learn in the out-of-doors, and it's
important that everyone look at the world around them with greater feeling.
Personal philosophy: Make each day count and try to find some fun in it.
