Town Clerk Will Once Again Pick Newtown's Top Dog
The town clerk's office is once again offering an incentive to dog owners to
get their dogs licensed by the June 30 deadline.
On July 1, Town Clerk Cindy Curtis Simon will hold a drawing to see what local
canine will be named top dog. The name of this year's No. 1 dog will be drawn
from a list of all dogs that have been licensed in Newtown through June 30.
The lucky dog will receive 25 pounds worth of dog food and a certificate for a
free rabies vaccine shot at next year's rabies clinic.
In 1995, Katie Duquette became Newtown's first No. 1 dog. Last year, Digger
Wismar was honored as top dog.
According to Mrs Simon, dogs six months of age and over must be licensed
annually on or before June 30. The 1997 dog licenses are now available at the
town clerk's office from 8 am to 4:30 pm. The state also requires that all
dogs have a rabies vaccination. Therefore, a dog must have a vaccination
certificate when licensed.
The fees are $6 for a neutered male or spayed female and $16 for all others.
Licenses may be ordered by mail by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope
with a check or money order for the proper amount and the following
information: rabies certificate, spay or neuter certificate, owner's name,
phone number, address, dog's name, breed, age of dog, color marking and sex of
dog.
For more information, contact Mrs Simon at 270-4210.
