After investigating the theft of an iPod digital player at Newtown High School that occurred on June 10, police arrested a 15-year-old boy there on June 16, charging him with sixth-degree larceny.

The accused boy had attempted to sell the device to another student who was a friend of the victim, resulting in the recovery of the stolen item and the investigation, police said.

Police released the arrested boy for a June 29 appearance at Danbury Juvenile Court. State law conceals the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Intersection

Motorist Kathleen Nitz, 49, of Southbury, who was driving a 2004 Volvo XC-70 station wagon eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped for a traffic signal at that street’s intersection with Commerce Road at about 2:21 pm June 17, police said.

Eastbound motorist Erica Woloszynski, 17, of 16 Winton Farm Road, who was driving a 2000 Mercury Sable sedan, stopped behind the Volvo, police said.

The traffic signal then changed to a flashing yellow light. The Volvo then moved forward but was struck from behind by the Mercury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Woloszynski for following too closely.
