Library Clock Is Stolen

Someone apparently stole an Eliah Terry pillar-and-scroll style clock from the

Booth Library at 25 Main Street. The clock was manufactured in the early

1800s.

The clock is thought to have been stolen sometime between October 30 and

November 3, according to police. The library reported it missing to police on

November 6.

The clock is unusual because it bears a painted depiction of a battle between

two ships, possibly in The War of 1812. Such clocks typically bear pastoral

scenes.

The clock has a half-moon shaped crack in one of the upper corners of its

clock glass. The clock is valued at more than $1,400. The shelf clock is from

the collection of Mary Hawley, the library's benefactress.

Anyone with any information about the theft of the clock is asked to contact

police.
