Theodore J. Mayer, 90, of Ridgefield, died February 14, at Danbury Hospital from complications of Parkinsonâs disease. He was the husband of Margaret âPegâ Mayer, his wife of 58 years. He was born May 28, 1919, in New York City, son of Frances (Schlosser) and Theodore G. Mayer.
Besides his wife, four children, including Paul and wife, Susan, of Newtown; two sisters; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, survive him.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific theater at the Battle of Okinawa. He worked for many years at the former Croll-Reynolds engineering company in Trumbull and after his retirement enjoyed a number of part-time positions, including Ringâs End Lumber in Bethel and the US Postal Service.
He was a founder of the Ridgefield Sea Scout Explorer Post 76. He was one of the original members of the Ridgefield Menâs Club and a member of Founders Hall. He was a past member of the Norwalk Power Squadron, US Power Squadrons. He enjoyed boating, bridge, bowling, golf, and being with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Friday, February 19, at 10 am, in Sacred Heart Church, Georgetown. Interment will follow in St Johnâs Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, N.Y. Calling hours are scheduled in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, Thursday, February 18, from 4 to 8 pm.
