with cut: Newtown's New Assessor To Start Work
Newtown's new tax assessor, Denise Hames, starts her job Monday. A resident of
Seymour, she was the deputy assessor in Southbury and worked briefly in a law
office before coming to Newtown.
Mrs Hames was chosen from among eight candidates for the job. She will earn an
annual salary of $46,000.
Mrs Hames will serve a 90-day probation period during which time she will be
considered the acting assessor, according to First Selectman Bob Cascella.
Following the probation, she will be officially appointed by the Board of
Selectmen.
Mark DeVestern, the town's tax assessor since 1989, resigned last December,
saying he was doing so "in order to pursue other opportunities."
