Selectmen Transfer Funds To Help With Fire Truck Purchase
The Board of Selectmen Monday agreed to transfer $21,000 from the town's
working contingency fund to assist in the purchase of a fire truck for the
Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department.
According to Kevin Cragin, chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners,
$130,000 was originally budgeted for the truck, but the low bid came in at
$151,000.
"We didn't budget enough, but about $15,000 of it was for additional
requirements from the NFPA [National Fire Protection Association] that were
implemented in August," Mr Cragin said.
Sandy Hook Fire Chief Bill Halsted said the unexpected costs stemmed from new
rules requiring ABS brakes, an engine retarder and light packages.
Mr Cragin said no fire trucks will be purchased by the town during the 1997-98
fiscal year.
