STRIKERS 3, WEST HARTFORD 1: The Strikers faced a formidable West Hartford team that emphasized ball control but the Strikers matched their control with patience and consistent possession of their own. Matthew McFadden netted the first ball for the Strikers but West Hartford capitalized on a corner kick that resulted in the tying ball. The half ended, 1-1. In the second half the Strikers used their strengths and pushed the ball consistently wide and down the flanks. Newtownâs speed and size drew West Hartford wide, leaving the middle clear for Ryan Taplin, who netted two. Brian Smith, along with Taplin, controlled the center while Sean Rawson, Peter Dittmar and Chris Wolcott all proved to be intelligent and aggressive on the wings. Nathan Walzer minded the Newtown net with Devon Manfredonia, David Anderson and Ryan Keogler all solidifying the defense.
