The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc., (SCAN) announces its 30th Annual Juried Spring Art Show will be held at Cyrenius H. Booth Library in Newtown, opening Saturday, May 6, and continuing through Sunday, May 14, during regular library hours.

The show is open to all artists who wish to exhibit in oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, mixed media, graphics and sculpture. Receiving times for artwork will be Wednesday, May 3, from 3 to 7 pm.

The show opens Saturday, May 6, with a reception and awards ceremony from 2 to 4 pm. There will be a Best in Show Award of $300, as well as $700 in additional cash prizes. This year all pieces selected into the show will be eligible for any of the awards. There will be merchandise certificates to be awarded as well.

The judges of awards include the professional artists John Swatsley of Harwinton, Hank McLaughlin of Stratford, and Marc Chabot of Woodbury.

Artists who wish to participate may obtain a prospectus from show chairman Susan W. Deming, 39 The Boulevard, Newtown, CT 06470, or telephone 270-8587. It is not necessary to be a member of SCAN to enter this exhibition.
