Around The Horn ... Youth Baseball Results

10-Year-Olds

Huskies 8, Hull Landscaping 8: Hull Landscaping shortstop Hunter Booker snared a screaming line drive hit by Husky Justin Oelberg with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning to preserve the tie as darkness fell. Hull Landscaping jumped to an early 8-1 lead on the strength of the bats of Michael Meyer, who was 3-for-4 with two inside-the-park home runs, and Oliver Wood, who was 2-for-3, and the pitching of Austin Kasbarian who gave up one run and struck out 8 in three innings. The Huskies, playing with 8 players, rallied for the tie behind Daniel Pearson who was 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBIs and Michael Liberante who was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief on the mound.

Addessi Jewelers 8, Mobile One Lube Express 4: For Addessi, Paul Whitaker pitched well in his debut, striking out all three batters he faced. Seth Willis went 2-for-3 with two singles and Andrew Lee went 2-for-3 with a single and double. Matt St. Jean, Thomas Addessi and Clint Stergue each contributed with singles.

Rohrbacher Construction 4, Attorney Greg LaDestro 3: Sean Ferris led Attorney Greg LaDestro with four hits and Joe Accousti added two. Jamie Cochrane and Austin LeBlanc pitched well for Attorney Greg LaDestro. Bobby Haskins and Matt Davis had key RBI doubles and great pitching was turned in by Ryan Shaw and Brandon Hensel. Great defensive plays were made by Ryan Argraves, Ellie Nikitchyuk, Parker Johnson and Colin Parker.

Huskies 10, Red Baron Carpet 0: Colin Patrick, Michael Liberante, and Jonathon Paes combined on a four-hit shutout to lead the Huskies. Patrick struck out 7 in three innings on the mound, Patrick Conte was 2-for-2, and Justin Oelberg had 3 RBIs. For Red Baron, River Low, Jack Moulder, Kelland Chrystie and Robert Katrinak each contributed singles.

Attorney Greg LaDestro 10, Mobil One Lube Express 8: John Cagganello had three hits including a triple while Sean Ferris had three of his own including a bomb to center field leading to an inside-the-park home run. Owen Samson kept the game tight with a key pitching performance in relief while Austin LeBlanc closed out the last two innings with four strikeouts.

Onex 9, Hull Landscaping 2: Tucker Kistner powered the ONEX offense by collecting two hits and knocking in three RBI to lead ONEX over Hull Landscaping. Timmy LeBlanc had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs to help pace the offense. Defensively, Dylan Tyrrell, Spencer Johnson and Jack Riley combined to strike out seven batters while Matt Campbell played a solid game behid the plate and at first base.

Huskies 6, Onex 2: Winning pitcher Patrick Conte struck out 7 and allowed one run in 3 innings and Michael Capaldo picked up the save by giving up just one run in 3 innings. Conte, Justin Oelberg, Colin Patrick and Daniel Pearson each had 2 hits for the Huskies. For Onex, Andrew Hubina was 2-for-2 and Mitchell Savoca struck out 6 and gave up just one run in 3 innings on the mound. Luke Reppucci led the ONEX offense with a base hit and RBI while Timmy LeBlanc reached base three times and Andrew Hubina and Tucker Kistner chipped in with hits as well. Defensively, Mitchell Savoca made four put outs while fielding his positions. 

Addessi Jewelers 9, Red Baron Carpet 6: Matt Gerics pitched a scoreless second inning, striking out all three of the batters he faced. Jake Oliger pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two. Matt St. Jean pitched a scoreless inning, striking out one. Jake Oliger went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Matt Gerics had a  rally-ending, unassisted double play at shortstop. Additional key hits by Justin Gillespie and Clint Stergue. Jake Oliger had a rally-ending, unassisted double play at first base. For Red Baron, Jack Moulder and Chris Blanco contributed with triples and River Low and Mitchell Weiman hit key doubles. Moulder struck out 4 in two innings pitched and Kelland Chrystie struck out 2 in one inning pitched.

Rohrbacher Construction 11, Hull Landscaping 4: Matt Davis, Chad Azzarito, Bobby Haskins, Scott McLean and Nick Rohrbacker had big RBI hits. Scott McLean had an unassisted double play and threw out a runner at home from the outfield. Defensive gems were turned in by Ryan Argraves, Ellie Nikitchyuk and Nick Rohrbacher who caught a screaming line drive to end the game.

Addessi Jewelers 12, Huskies 11: Winning pitcher Matt Gerics hurled 2 scoreless innings and was 2-for-2 at the plate with 4 RBIs. Matt Kretz and Seth Willis each had 2 hits and Matt St. Jean picked up the save in relief by retiring the last two hitters with a runner in scoring position for Addessi Jewelers.  For the Huskies, Patrick Conte was 3-for-4 with a triple. Charles Soto, Justin Oelberg and Tom Cotton each had two hits and Steven Moccio and Ben Reilly made nice catches in the field.

Addessi Jewelers 5, Mobile One Lube Express 2: Matter Gerics made a nice catch on a line drive. Matt Gerics pitched 2 scoreless innings, with 4 strikeouts. Justin Gillespie led off the third inning with a hit as part of a three-run, four-hit inning. Matt Kretz, Jake Oliger and Paul Whitaker each contributed with singles.

Red Baron Carpet 5, Onex 4: A sacrifice fly out into deep left field by Jake Lapp drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. River Low made a great play throwing out a runner at third base from a right field in the fifth to end the inning and Jack Moulder struck out three batters in the sixth. For Onex, Dylan Terrell pitched well striking out five in two innings pitched and Spencer Johnson and Luke Reppucci had doubles.

Newtown Black Sox 7, Aspetuck 1: John Lebinski and Brandon Cooper pitched brilliantly, yielding just three hits to lead the Black Sox to victory. Mixing a pinpoint fastball and a sharp curveball, Lebinski retired the first nine batters he faced. He struck out five batters and walked only one in four innings. The Black Sox jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning lead when Dan Poeltl singled, moved to third on a long single by J.P. Blanco and scored on a wild pitch. In the third Cooper walked, Poeltl ripped a double and Ben Stoller drove them both in with a single to left field. Stoller moved to second on the throw home, and Lebinski drilled a single to score Stoller for a 4-0 lead. The team added three more runs in the sixth inning. Parker Lintz singled, stole second and scored when Mac Morlock crushed a single. Ryan Palmer smacked a long sacrifice fly to center field to score Morlock and Poeltl lofted a long fly to center to score Ryan Pavlicek. Cooper surrendered only two singles over the last three innings and made a great play on a hard-hit ball up the middle. Other defensive gems: Lintz, making a rare appearance at catcher, threw to shortstop Poeltl to nail a runner at second; second baseman Palmer ended the game with a beautiful backhanded catch on a liner up the middle.

Ravens 15, Newtown Base Technologies 5: Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Ravens exploded for 11 runs to seal the victory. James Rebman clubbed the key hit, a long, towering double down the left field line with the bases loaded, giving the Ravens the lead for good. Other big hits in the inning were 2-RBI singles by Ryan Truchsess, Ian Kirner and Michael Koch. Truchsess earlier crushed a line-drive double to right center. For Base, Joe Davis smacked three hits and Wyatt DePuy blasted two hits, including a long double over the centerfielder’s head. Those were the only hits off Ravens pitchers Parker Lintz and Nicky Sajovic, who struck out five batters in three innings of pitching.

Newtown Pirates 13, New Milford 7: Pitchers Colton Sposta and Ryan Daignault teamed to throttle New Milford through the early innings when the Pirates built a lead behind a long double by Sposta and a triple to deep left center by David Gerics. Behind the plate, catcher Mike Newman turned in a nearly perfect night’s work for the Bucs, allowing only a single ball to sneak past him.

Ridgefield Team Eleven 9, Newtown Ravens 8 (9 innings): Ridgefield scored a run in the second extra inning. Trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ridgefield loaded the bases, mainly on walks. On a 2-2 count, Ravens pitcher Nicky Sajovic threw what appeared to be a game-winning strike down the middle but didn’t get a strike call, one of several made against the visiting Newtown team according to reports submitted by the Ravens. Pitcher Parker Lintz threw five innings without yielding a walk. Lintz gave up two unearned runs and struck out four. Lintz also singled and drove in two runs. Ben Stoller and Brandon Cooper and Ian Kirner knocked in runs. Cooper made a daring, heads-up base-running play, scoring from second on a wild pitch with a head-first slide into the plate. Right fielder James Rebman hauled in a smoking line drive with the bases loaded and two outs to get the Ravens out of a fifth-inning jam.

Ridgefield Team Nine 8, Ravens 4: The Ravens battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score after five innings but fell apart in the final frame. Ravens pitcher Michael Koch pitched superbly, throwing three shutout innings to keep the Ravens in the game. Koch entered the game with two men on and no outs in the third inning. He mowed down Ridgefield’s two best hitters and picked a runner off first base to get out of the jam. He then struck out five batters in the next two innings, finishing the day with six strikeouts. Koch also hit a long double to left center. Teammate Nicky Sajovic knocked in two runs with RBI grounders. Right fielder Ian Kirner made a defensive gem, throwing a strike to first baseman Ben Stoller to take a potential single away from a Ridgefield batter.

Newtown Pirates 5, Ridgefield Team Seven 4: Ridgefield had the big hitters, but the Newtown Pirates had the stoppers as the Bucs pitched their way to victory. Starter Colton Sposta gave up only one run over three innings before hurlers Ryan Daignault and Dave Gerics came on to preserve the win. Daignault used his change of pace to keep the Ridgefield sluggers off balance. Gerics closed the game with an impressive display of high heat. The Pirates got their runs on the strength of some daring base running by Joey Fellin and Harry Snellback in the second inning, as well as the clutch hitting of Collin Hall.
