Help In A Time Of Need
Help In A Time Of Need
To the Editor:
We want to publicly thank the volunteers of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department for their service.
As a result of the recent blackout, our home was flooded. We were away on vacation, visiting family in New York, when we received a call on our cell phone from the responding firefighter. The Sandy Hook firefighters responded to an alarm at our home, caused when water dripped into a ceiling-mounted smoke/heat detector in a basement room, shorting out, and activating the fire alarm.
The damage to our home after two days of leaking water was extensive, covering three floors. The firefightersâ response minimized that damage and stopped the water leak. Further they pumped out the standing water and pulled down the dangerous sagging living room ceiling without complicating our already substantial cleanup problems. Their concern and prompt efforts helped lighten our load and speed our recovery from the disaster.
The courteousness and professionalism of the Sandy Hook firefighters is a tribute to the town and people of Newtown. This family wonât soon forget how truly blessed we are in Newtown to have such dedicated, selfless volunteers in publicâs service.
Thank you Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department.
