DANBURY — The Newtown Lions Club and Western Connecticut State University’s Sigma Chi Alumni Association will co-host the second annual Fore Sandy Hook Golf Classic on Monday, June 30, at Richter Park in Danbury. Registration and lunch will begin at noon; tee time is 1:30 pm.

The golf tournament will benefit Sandy Hook Elementary Fund (SHEF), which continues to fund counseling to the children, families, staff, and first responders following 12/14. Newtown Lions Club has invested more than $350,000 in counseling to date and the need is ongoing. The need continues to be great for the program, which reached a high of more than 250 people and costs exceeding $40,000 in February alone.

Cost for the Classic is $175 per person, which covers the 18 holes of golf and a cart, lunch and dinner, beverages, and snacks.

All participants will receive golf balls, divot repair tools, and hats. Prizes will be awarded for the longest drive, closest to pin, and for first, second, and third place finishers. A prize will also be awarded for a hole in one.

All Classic participants and attendees may participate in live and silent auctions.

Items will include two autographed UConn men’s basketball 2014 team photos, with brackets and scores; a UConn Women’s Basketball, autographed by all current team players; four tickets to a Red Sox game of the winner’s choice, and a tour of The Green Monster; a meet-and-greet with Joe Namath during WestConn Football Camp the week of July 13; four tickets to a New York Jets game of the winner's choice, including a one-day parking pass; and footballs autographed by Joe Namath, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, and Phil Simms.

Golfers looking for future outings may wish to bid on foursomes at Richter Park, Ridgewood Country Club, and Rock Ridge Country Club; or a threesome at the exclusive Morefar near Brewster, N.Y.

In addition items from the Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox (including a jersey signed by Clay Buchholz and a baseball signed by Jon Lester), Seattle Mariners, New York Giants and New York Jets have all been donated.

One special lot is the offer of a 1934 Fenway Park blueprint, 20 by 32, with game dirt.

In addition, The Heisman Trophy Committee has contributed two footballs, signed by this year's nominees, and two tickets, valued at $600 each, for next year's Heisman Trophy dinner.

Golfers looking for future outings may wish to bid on foursomes at Richter Park, Ridgewood Country Club, and Rock Ridge Country Club.
