Nighthawk Update ... Newtown High School Lacrosse, Tennis, Golf And Track Wrap-Up

Newtown Highâs girlsâ and boysâ lacrosse teams remained unbeaten, each earning a pair of wins this past week; the boysâ tennis team blanked Stratford; the golf team defeated Brookfield for its first week; and the girlsâ track team beat two of three opponents. Here are some of the highlights:
Girlsâ Lax Seeing 20-20
Goals continue to come in bunches for the girlsâ lacrosse team. The Nighthawks defeated Brookfield 20-9 on April 15 and toppled Weston 20-5 on April 21 to improve to 4-0.
In the win over Brookfield, Betsy Vendel had five goals and Lisa Vendel and Meghan Bridges each scored four (Bridges also led her team with three assists).
Emma Kingsley scored twice and Meghan Carney, Erin Brown, Jackie Isabella, Kaitlin Brophy and Katie Canavan all found the net. Lisa Vendel had three interceptions, a turnover and recorded four ground balls, Annie Fletcher forced three turnovers and had three ground balls, Stephanie Suhoza played well and came up with a turnover and Kirsten Hudock tallied two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
In the win over Weston, Betsy Vendel, Brophy and Bridges all had four goals. Carney and Kaylee Kruger both scored twice and Brown, Isabella, Lisa Vendel and Taylor Barry also scored. Goaltender Marnie Thompson made three saves.
Boysâ Laxmen Still Rolling
The boysâ lacrosse team improved to 5-0 with a 17-5 win over Brookfield on April 15 and an 11-9 win at Weston on Tuesday.
Against Brookfield, Kevin Canavan scored four goals, Christian Beitel had three and Jaime Vavrek scored twice. Kyle OâConnor recorded six ground balls and Lewis Thompson and Beitel had five each.
In the win over Weston, Newtown overcame a 3-1 deficit after one quarter of play. Beitel scored another hat-trick, and Jacob Dauz, Thompson and Vavrek each had a pair of tallies. Goaltender Clarence Chung made 12 saves.

On Course ... Golf Team Earns First Win
The golf team defeated Brookfield 159-163 at Newtown Country Club on Tuesday to earn its first win of the campaign and improve to 1-0 in conference play. Newtownâs scores are as follows:
