SNAPSHOT: REV KURT HUBER

Occupation: I am the assistant to the rector of Trinity Episcopal Church,

Kathleen Adams-Shephard. I preach every two or three weeks, assist in the

celebration of the Eucharist, and my ministries are youth and membership. I

have a master of divinity degree.

How Long in Newtown: I have been here since August of 1998. Prior to that, my

wife Ellen and I were in seminary in Berkley, Calif., at The Church Divinity

School of the Pacific. I am originally from a suburb of Detroit. We're

enjoying Newtown and the area. It's been fun as we explore more of the region.

Family: Ellen and I were married in August of 1997. We are looking into foster

care and adoption in addition to having our own children someday. Ellen, who

has a master's of divinity, is studying for a second master's degree at Yale.

We could work together someday or at separate churches in the same area. We

will go wherever we are called and where God leads us.

Pets: We have three dogs, Aleph, Beauregard and Sparky, all pound dogs. We

also have two cats, Cleo and Felix, who were both rescues.

Hobbies: I enjoy camping and hiking. I love sports, anything I can get

involved in. I like to roller blade and ice skate. I also write poetry. I

recently submitted a poem in a contest and made the semi-finals. I'll hear

about the finals in a couple of months.

Favorite books and authors: I like to read very much. I usually have several

books, magazines and topical stuff around that I've started. I have

particularly enjoyed a poetry book, Mass for Hard Times, which was written by

R.S. Thomas, a Welsh priest.

Favorite TV program: We enjoy watching ER. I also like anything about Star

Trek.

Organizations: I am a member of the Newtown Clergy Association, and Ellen and

I are members of the Audubon Society.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Our favorite vacation spot is Oscoda, Mich. We went

there on our honeymoon. My mom has a cottage there. Within five minutes we can

be at Lake Huron or a river.

Philosophy: Faith, love, hope, a sense of humor and enthusiasm can carry you a

long way.
