NSA Announces Scholarship Winners

The Newtown Scholarship Association (NSA) has announced that 15 seniors

graduating from Newtown High School this year were awarded scholarships

totaling $37,400.

Winners of the scholarships were announced at graduation ceremonies Thursday.

The Carl LeGrow Scholarship is traditionally awarded to the highest ranking

student receiving an NSA award. The J.B. Farwell Scholarship is automatically

renewable for four years of undergraduate school, provided academic standing

is maintained.

Mrs Paul McNamara, awards committee chairman, estimates that approximately

$80,000 in scholarships will be awarded by NSA this year. In addition to

awards presented at graduation, the Newtown Scholarship Association continues

aid to undergraduates who have maintained academic standing and have

demonstrated a need for financial help.

Since its founding in 1937, the Newtown Scholarship Association has awarded

more than $1 million in scholarships to more than 1,000 students. The winners

of the following scholarships were announced:

Rebecca Carroll, who will be attending Eastern Connecticut State University,

received a scholarship in honor of Anna Anderson, Brooke Bajarano and Olga

Knoepke.

Megan Czaplicke, who will attend the College of Charleston, was awarded a

scholarship in honor of Jim Bresson and Kim Lehman.

Michael Czaplicke, who will attend Castleton College, was awarded the Police

Union Scholarship in honor of John Friel.

Patrick C. Czaplicke, who will attend Elon College, was awarded a scholarship

in honor of Brett Pryor and Eileen Willig.

Christine Fornabia, headed to Suffolk University, received a scholarship in

honor of Robert Vogel, Elizabeth Parker and Olga Knoepke.

Justin K. Fraczek, who will attend Sacred Heart, received a scholarship in

honor of Joseph Corbo and Olga Knoepke.

Laura K. Hickey, who will attend Canisius College, received a scholarship in

honor Janice Rysz, Joseph Grasso and Olga Knoepke.

Tasha Lucas, who will attend Mills College, was awarded a scholarship in honor

of Mack Lathrop and John Farwell.

Kate Lukeris, who will attend NYU, has been awarded the Rotary Club

Scholarship in honor of Carl LeGrow, James Rheault and Olga Knoepke.

Thomas J. Mandulak, who will attend NYU, was awarded a scholarship in the name

of Rebecca VanSyckle, Annabelle Rosenthal and Flora Lavery.

Erick S. Nawrocki, who will attend American University, was awarded a

scholarship in honor of Tony Urban.

Maria Robertson, who will attend St Anselm, was awarded a scholarship in honor

of Fred Frankel, Joseph Hammond and John Farwell.

Brook Anne Stiewing, who will attend Marist College, received a scholarship in

honor of Gregory Richardson.

Kevin Walker, who will attend the Rhode Island School of Design, received a

scholarship in honor of Harlen Allison and Paul Smith.

Jocelyn Joy Wilcynski, who will attend Ithaca College, was a warded a

scholarship in honor of Lee Davenson.
