Due to Thanksgiving later this week, FAITH Food Pantry will not be open for its regular Thursday evening session on November 22.

To help its clients, including newcomers, the volunteers at the nonecumenical food pantry will have special hours on Monday, November 19. The pantry, now located at 46 Church Hill Road, in a new building behind the St Rose of Lima sanctuary, will be open 6 to 7:30 Monday evening.

Lee Paulsen, president of the pantry, said the decision was made to open on Monday "to make sure everyone has a chance to stop in for Thanksgiving and other items this week.

The pantry will also host its regular Tuesday hours this week. It will be open on November 20 from 10 am until noon.

Thanks to a number of special locations done in recent days, including the latest Fill The Fire Truck food drive by the town's volunteer firefighters on Saturday, November 17, and a collection on Sunday, November 18, by Boy Scout Troop 270, the pantry this week has at least 50 turkeys and plenty of items for side dishes.

Reservations or appointments are not needed to visit the pantry. Residents who need a hand putting food on their table, feeding their pets, or who could use personal hygiene items can visit the pantry twice each month.

Proof of residency is required. Volunteers will need to see two forms of identification. At least one must be a photo ID, and both must have a matching Newtown address.

Although located on the campus of the town's Catholic church, the pantry is not based in religion. Its acronym stations for Food Assistance, Immediate Temporary Help.
