The driver of a tractor-trailer truck traveling south on Mt Pleasant Road escaped serious injury Wednesday morning after his truck jack-knifed near the southern intersection of Johnnie Cake Lane.

Hook & Ladder firefighters and Newtown Police responded to the area of 6 Mt Pleasant Road shortly after 7 am on a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Danbury Ambulance also responded to the scene, due to Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps already being out on a separate call.

A male driver in his early 20s reported head pain to first responders. He was later transported to an area hospital.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Mt Pleasant Road was completely closed due to the incident.

Firefighters were able to clear from the scene by 8:30 am. Police remained on the scene. Drivers from Hilario’s remained on the scene, working to untangle and then tow the vehicle. The road reopened around 9:20 am, Wednesday morning.

Minor accidents were reported in other areas around town Wednesday morning. Roadways were slick following a winter storm on Tuesday that dropped a few inches of snow on the ground, which was then followed by hours of freezing rain. Newtown schools were on a two hour delay due to the road conditions.
