The school district has released the 2018-19 Winter Performance Schedule for concerts and events for the public schools.

The concerts are free, and members of the public are welcome to attend. The listings show the school, group performing, location, date, and time.

A release from the district about the events reads, “Please join us in celebrating the arts in the Newtown Public Schools. Students throughout the district are developing artistic literacy — the knowledge, skills, and understanding to actively engage in the arts throughout their lives. The exhibits, productions, and concerts taking place in our schools provide insight into the process in which students develop discipline-specific skills and techniques associated with their art form. They represent the culmination of a great deal of discipline, many hours of practice, analyzing and problem-solving, refining, and collaborating with teachers and peers. All skills that are crucial in today’s workforce.

“A variety of cultures, styles, genres, and time periods are represented, with many elements having been arranged or created by our own students. We appreciate the amount of time you dedicate to supporting all of the programs in our schools. The Visual and Performing Arts Department staff and students would be honored to have you attend one of our events.”

The Newtown Middle School eighth grade concert will be at Newtown High School, December 3, 7 pm; snow date is December 11.

NMS seventh grade concert will be at NHS, December 4, 7 pm; snow date December 12.

Hawley Elementary School’s fourth grade concert will be at Hawley, December 6, 7 pm; snow date December 20.

Sandy Hook Elementary School’s fourth grade concert will be at SHS, December 6, 7 pm; snow date December 20.

NHS orchestra and Jazz Improv Class concert will be at NHS, December 10, 7 pm; snow date December 19.

NHS band concert will be at NHS, December 17, 7 pm; snow date January 8.

NHS chorus concert will be at NHS, December 18, 7 pm; snow date December 19.

NHS Art Portfolio class exhibit will be at C.H. Booth Library, December 21 to January 2, during library hours, with an artist reception January 2 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

The NHS Unified Theater program will stage a student production at NHS January 5 to 6, 6 pm on January 5 and 6 pm on January 6; snow dates are January 12 and 13.

Head O’ Meadow Elementary School’s fourth grade concert will be at Head O’ Meadow January 9, 7 pm; snow date January 15.

Middle Gate Elementary School’s fourth grade concert will be at NHS, January 10, 7 pm; snow date is January 15.

Reed Intermediate School’s fifth and sixth grade band concert will be at Reed, January 23, with the fifth grade performing at 6:30 pm and the sixth grade performing at 8 pm; snow date is January 31.

Reed’s fifth grade chorus and orchestra concert will be at Reed, January 24, 7 pm; snow date January 29.

Reed’s sixth grade chorus and orchestra concert will be at Reed, January 28, 7 pm; snow date January 30.
