Not Yet Enough?

To the Editor:

What lengths toward trashing the security of our nation must the president have to go, before the GOP members of both House and Senate find their spines and act to censure and override the actions of Trump?

Not yet enough that Trump states to the world he and Korea’s cruel dictator have “fallen in love?” Not yet enough that just because this dictator says so, Trump claims this same dictator did not know about the murderous torture that caused the death of a US citizen? Not yet enough that Trump’s first showcase charade of a summit achieved nothing to restrict Korea’s nuclear armament production? Not yet enough that the second summit failed within a day, yet this disaster of a president says he and the dictator parted “still friends?”

Not yet enough that this president has deliberately alienated our country’s most vital allies, and is unconcerned that both the European Union and NATO are disintegrating? This of course delights Trump’s other bosom buddy, Putin, whose word he accepts over every cautionary report of our own intelligence agencies, yet this has not been enough to dismay the GOP Congress?

Not yet enough that our constitution and its provision for separation of powers has been disdained by this president? Trump falsely claims a national emergency, cries wolf, and grabs funds that had been allocated elsewhere by the proper body to do so — our Congress. This too, not yet enough?

President Donald Trump demonstrably lies, issues authoritarian edicts, ignores professional advice, fires those professionals who disagree or criticize, and in every way behaves as if the USA is his personal boardroom... in other words, acts very like the dictators he so admires.

None of these offenses have yet been enough to spur the GOP members in House and Senate to curb this president. Neither the erosion of our national security, nor the damage to our democratic way of governance has yet been enough to rouse the “Grand Old Party” in opposition to Trump. Why Not?
