In the wake of the January 20 ice storm that forced the postponement or cancellation of many events last weekend, Someday Cinema Series Coordinator Jen Rogers has announced an update to the 2019 series schedule.

Harvey, which was scheduled to open the year with two screenings on January 20, has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 6. A third screening has also been added for the 1950 film, which will now be offered at 1, 4, and 7 pm at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.

The next film in the series will be Sleepless in Seattle (1993), which will be screened at 1 and 7 pm Sunday, February 10.

Steve McQueen makes his first appearance in this series as Captain Hilts in The Great Escape (1963), to be shown on Sunday, March 10, followed by a second chance to see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) on Sunday, April 7, which was somewhat preempted in November by wintry weather.

To prime audiences for Mother’s Day, Albert Brooks stars with Debbie Reynolds in the hilarious film Mother (1996), screening on Sunday May 5.

The Wizard of Oz (1939) will be shown on Sunday, June 23, in honor of its 80th anniversary. The film was the first one in the Someday Cinema Series, which debuted in May 2014.

“This film was shown our very first weekend in May of 2014,” said Ms Rogers. “I thought we should commemorate our five-year anniversary by giving folks another chance to see it in all the high definition glory only the theater can bring.”

After a summer break, the series will pick up on Thursday, September 5, with one of John Wayne’s best cowboy films, True Grit (1969), for its 50th anniversary. Following that, Harrison Ford stars in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) on Sunday, September 29, in Ford’s first Someday Cinema Series appearance.

Pianist and historian Ben Model will provide live accompaniment to the creepy vampire film Nosferatu (1922) just before Halloween on Sunday, October 27, and Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn will star in the zany comedy Bringing Up Baby (1938) on Sunday, November 17.

Harvey star James Stewart will return to the big screen at Edmond Town Hall for the 2019 finale, The Shop Around The Corner. Three screenings of that 1940 release will be offered, at 1, 4 and 7 pm on Sunday, December 16.

Tickets for all shows are $3 each, available at the box office prior to each screening.

The series continues to be presented by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission. Proceeds from ticket sales and additional donations go toward theater restoration.
