Margaret C. Warner, 91, formerly a longtime resident of Sandy Hook, died January 18, in Nantucket, Mass. She was born in Waterbury, to Laura and George Camp.

She was educated at St Margaret’s School in Waterbury and attended Wellesley College on full scholarship, graduating in 1944.

She worked for Olin Stephens, testing PT boats and racing hulls at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. She married Hawley Warner, owner of his family’s general store, H.G. Warner and Co, in Sandy Hook Center. They raised three children in Sandy Hook, while enjoying birding, skiing, and gardening. In retirement, Mrs Warner made her husband buy a boat, and she was able to realize her dream of owning a boat to sail in Long Island and Nantucket Sounds.

Mrs Warner was deeply involved with Trinity Church of Newtown, where she was also the director of Christian education for many years. She continued her education at Berkley Divinity at Yale, New Haven. She will be remembered for her spiritual guidance to parishioners, especially the young. Among other committees and boards, Hospice and Pastoral Care, Meals On Wheels, Alter Guild, Horticulture Club, and Danbury Garden Club all benefited from her quiet presence and counsel.

In 2006, she moved to Nantucket to be near her daughter, and the sound of the ocean and scent of the salt air she loved. While at The Homestead she could be seen sitting on the bench, waving to those passing by.

Her three children, Susan M. Warner of Nantucket, Anne H. Warner and husband, Stuart Cohen, of Dixmont, Maine, and Austin C. Warner and wife, Lorry, of Danbury; grandchildren Scott Warner and Kristen Velsmid and her husband, Matthew; and four great-grandchildren survive Mrs Warner. She was predeceased by her husband, H. Hawley Warner; and brothers, Merwin and Nelson Camp.

The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care and companionship she enjoyed during her time at The Homestead and Our Island Home on Nantucket.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown, Friday, February 7, at 11 am.

She will be interred at Zoar Cemetery, Sandy Hook.
