STAMFORD (AP) — The father of the gunman in the Sandy Hook Elementary School killings has agreed to help a Connecticut commission obtain his son’s school and medical records, which members hope can shed more light on the tragedy.

Peter Lanza met for an hour Thursday, January 23, with Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson, chairman of the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission, which is investigating the events of 12/14. Mr Lanza is the father of the shooter, who killed 20 children and six women before taking his own life as police arrived on the scene.

Mr Jackson said Friday he met with Mr Lanza in Stamford and discussed having Mr Lanza sign release forms related his son’s health and education records.

A spokesman for Mr Lanza said he had no comment.

The commission was scheduled to meet January 24, and members were expecting to hear presentations from several experts regarding issues related to behavioral health and crisis counseling services.

The agenda for yesterday’s meeting included presentations by Daniel Dodgen, PhD (Director, Division for At Risk Individuals, Behavioral Health, and Community Resilience; Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response; Office of the Secretary; U.S. Department of Health and  Human Services); Thomas Demaria, PhD, director of the Psychological Services Center &  Trauma Response Team of the Doctoral Psychology Program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University; Vincent B. Giordano, MS, a partner with Denizen Consulting; Francis Pombar, former recovery coordinator for Aurora Public Schools; and Marleen Wong, LCSW, PhD, Associate Dean and Clinical Professor at the University of Southern California School of Social Work.

A panel discussion and second discussion were also scheduled.

The Sandy Hook Advisory Commission is Governor Dannel Malloy’s 16-member panel of experts tasked with reviewing current policies and making specific recommendations in the areas of public safety, with particular attention paid to school safety, mental health, and gun violence prevention.  The group was formed in January in response to 12/14.

Commission members have said they need more information about the shooter’s mental state before making recommendations to change mental health policy.
