Newtown Continuing Education has limited openings available in the following classes. Contact Newtown Continuing Education at 203-426-1787, 9 am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday, for further information on dates, times, and location, or visit newtowncontinuinged.org.Take Better Pictures, Understanding Camera Settings - A two-class course on Tuesdays, starting March 20, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $59. The class will explore camera settings and functions so that the student will finally know what all the buttons do. Understanding how to control a camera is the foundation of improving skills as a photographer. Students should bring their DSLR camera and manual to class.Beginner Knitting Class - An eight-class course on Wednesdays, starting March 21, 6:45 pm to 7:45 pm, $129. For those who have wanted to knit, but didn't know where to start, or need to brush up the basics, this course will teach how to cast on, knit, purl, and more while creating a fashionable project to start. Crochet basics will also be taught. Students need to bring in a skein of bulky-weight yarn of their choice (such as Lion Wool-Ease Thick N Quick) and US size 11, 13 or 15 knitting needles to start.Beginner Knitting Circle, Daytime - An eight-class course on Wednesdays, starting March 21, 11 am to noon, for ages 18 and up, $129. For those who can cast on and knit garter stitch, and are ready to build more skills (or have completed the beginner course), the course will offer several projects, starting with an "oh so cute" hat that can be made in sizes from children to adults, as well as a seamless project "knitting in the round" on circular needles. In this comprehensive, step-by-step, fun class, you will learn to read patterns, check gauge, master more difficult stitches (including cables) and more! Students need to bring in size 10 (longer length preferable) straight needles and one skein (150 yards) of worsted weight yarn of their choice to start. Other materials needed will be discussed in class. Students can also bring independent projects for help as well.Intermediate Knitting Circle, Daytime - An eight-class course on Wednesdays, 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm, for ages 18 and up, $129. The course will cover the importance of Will (estate), Living Will, Curable Power of Attorney (POA), Health Care Directive & Proxy, Revocable & Irrevocable Trusts, DNR, MOLST/POLST and other terms. This is a how-to class with references, samples, examples, and real-life experiences.Test Drive A New Career, Adult Internships And Encore Career Possibilities - A one-class course on Tuesday, March 20, 6:30 pm to 8 pm, $39. Are you a midlife adult newly out of work? Underemployed or working part-time? Nearing retirement at another job? A stay-at-home parent ready to rejoin the workforce? Explore the possibilities of returning to the workforce via structured, short-term internships that help explore new fields while gaining value work experience. No discounts apply.Ballroom Dancing - A four-class course on Thursdays, starting March 22, 7 pm to 8 pm, $99 per couple or $51 per single. Learn the fox trot, waltz, cha-cha, and more with instructors Joe Williams and Noni Low, who have been dancing together for more than 20 years and teaching ballroom dance for beginners to advanced for more than 15 years. Their basic concept of ballroom dancing consists of having fun with easy to learn instructions. Couples and singles welcome.Yoga 101 - A ten-class course on Mondays, starting March 26, 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, $99. This session offers a variety of postures suitable for both beginner and experienced students. Bring yoga mat and towel. Yoga blocks optional.
