STAMFORD — A distant heir to a family fortune sets out to speed up the line of succession by using a great deal of charm... and a dash of murder.

Featuring book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and music and lyrics by Steven Lutvak,  A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder was the most-nominated Broadway show of 2014. With ten Tony nominations and four wins — including Best Musical and Best Book — it also earned seven Drama Desk Awards (including Best Musical), four Outer Critics Circle Awards (including Best Musical), and one Drama League Award (Best Musical).

Curtain Call will present the Fairfield County debut of the musical comedy as the next production of its 28th season. Directed by John Atkin, the Curtain Call production also features choreography by Christine Titus and music direction by Tony Bellomy.

Performances begin Friday, March 29, and continue weekends through April 27. Curtain is Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, with Sunday matinees on March 31, April 7, and April 14 scheduled at 2 pm.

There are also two Thursday performances planned, on April 18 and 25.

When the low-born Monty Navarro finds out that he is eighth in line for an earldom in the lofty D’Ysquith family, he figures his chances of outliving his predecessors are slight and sets off down a far more ghoulish path.

Can he knock off his unsuspecting relatives without being caught and become the second Earl of Highhurst? And what of love? Murder isn’t the only thing on Monty’s mind...

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder is a murderous romp filled with unforgettable music, non-stop laughs, and a scene-stealing role for one actor playing all eight of the doomed heirs who meet their ends in the most creative and side-splitting ways. Michael Wright of Newtown has been cast as that actor for this production.

"Between the different members of the D'Ysquiths, there are more than a dozen costume changes in the first act alone, giving not only my acting chops a run for their money but also my sanity a little as well," Mr Wright told The Newtown Bee this week.

"Some changes take less than a minute in certain scenes," he said. Fortunately, he added, "I'm surrounded by a truly talented ensemble and our principals are a delight."

While Mr Wright is the only Newtown actor in the production, his wife Laurie is a member of production as a dresser.

"Believe me, they will be as vital as the characters I play," Mr Wright said.

"We are so looking forward to sharing this offbeat, yet lovable musical farce with audiences," he said.

Tickets for most shows are $35 for adults, $25 senior citizens, and $17.50 for children. Tickets for the two “Thrifty Thursday” performances are $27.50, all seats.

Performances are at The Kweskin Theatre, within The Sterling Farms Theatre Complex at 1349 Newfield Avenue in Stamford. For reservations and additional information, call the box office at 203-461-6358 or visit curtaincallinc.com.
