Occupation: I’m a web designer for small businesses, and I teach two graphic design classes at Naugatuck Community College. The name of my business is Wingcat Design — the name is about doing things that seem impossible, like when pigs fly; but cats have more class than pigs.

Family: My husband, Jack, and I have been married for 25 years. We have one son, Mark, who is 20. He goes to Bryant University in Rhode Island, where he is majoring in communications and computer information systems. My mother lives in Newtown, and so do my sisters Donna and Eileen. My other sister, Patty, lives in New York.

Pets: I have the best blue-eyed, dopey dog, who was born in the Newtown Pound. Duke is going to be 8 years old. I was always a cat person, but I’m totally in love with this dog. We have a cat, too, from a New Jersey shelter. Wiggy is about 5 years old.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I was born here. I’m a Newtown baby. My parents operated the gas station that used to be on Route 302 in front of the trailer court. I went to St Rose, graduated from NHS, and went to Naugatuck Community College and WestConn. Except for a little stint in Danbury, I’ve lived here my whole life.

What do you like to do in your free time? I don’t have a lot of free time. I do love to go for walks. I’m involved with the Save Hawleyville Post Office group and I’m on the board for the Parent Connection. My mom and I go out to lunch once a week, too.

Do you have a favorite book? I usually read magazines, newspapers, and online stuff. The last book I remember finishing was The Secret Life of Bees. That is absolutely my favorite book.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? What I like to do is just get in the car and go. My sister Patty has a condo in North Carolina on Carolina Beach that I love to go to. It’s a great spot. I love to travel with my friends. It’s so much fun.

What is the best thing about Newtown? Probably that my family is here. I like Newtown. I like seeing the flagpole in the middle of the road — then I know I’m home. I do miss the Hawleyville Post Office and Dickinson Pool, though.

What is the biggest change you have seen in Newtown? The number of people in town and the growth. It’s not all for the bad, but it’s a change. I miss the farms. There used to be a lot more. And we used to wait and see how many trucks would get stuck under the bridge on Church Hill Road each week.

Do you have a hero? I have one really cool aunt, who is 91 years old. She has the best sense of humor. She has a sense of spirituality and she just doesn’t give up.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Just do it.

What is the most important lesson you have ever learned? Don’t ever give up. What a difference a day makes.
