Dust off your flashlights and join the 15th Annual Flashlight Egg Hunt with the Newtown Parks & Recreation Department on Friday, April 5 6, at 8 pm sharp. The event will take place at Dickinson Memorial Park, 50 Elm Drive. Participants can meet at the pavilion off of Elm Drive.

“Come, bring a flashlight,” said Assistant Director of Recreation RoseAnn Reggiano. At this event, she said, “We wait for it to get dark, then send them on their little loops to find the eggs.” The hunt is for ages 9 and up.

Eggs are the plastic variety, filled with treats, she said.

“One is never too old to enjoy,” the hunt, according to the Parks and Rec website. This event is free to Newtown residents, $5 per non-resident.

To register online, visit newtown-ct.gov and look for activity No. 314601 A.

The rain date is Saturday, April 6, also at 8 pm sharp.

A Spring Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, at 10 am, also at the Dickinson Park pavilion, and is intended for ages 8 and under.

Prize eggs will be scattered throughout the property for the hunt. Children should bring their own bags to hold eggs. The event is free to residents, $5 for non-residents. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, April 13. Register online for activity 314501 A.

“We have added a DJ this year to add entertainment to the event. We also brought in two mechanical riding animals, Bamboo the panda and Lena the Siberian snow leopard,” Ms Reggiano said. “The kids just want to get out there and hunt, but we have to keep them entertained and wait for everybody to show up first.”

The Spring Bunny plans to make a special appearance, along with DJ Austin Dailey.

Park and Rec has been doing these activities for more that 25 or 30 years, Ms Reggiano said. Does the event grow from year to year? “Yes, it does,” she said.
