Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue announced in an e-mail to district parents on March 28, that Friday, March 29 is “Family Friendly Friday,” and she is encouraging all to take part in the day. The event is for all students, staff, and families.

“I have requested a weekend free from homework, studying, projects, and assignments so that all students and staff can de-stress and spend quality time with family and friends,” Dr Rodrigue wrote. “This same ‘family-oriented’ message will be conveyed to all students [kindergarten to twelfth grade] as well. Secondary students will know that we are making a concerted effort to take school-related tasks off their plates this weekend, and younger students (with less homework) will be given the opportunity to share the highlights of their Family Friendly Friday on Monday (if they choose).

“We hope this gives our families and staff a chance to relax and rejuvenate... together,” she continued. “All administrators and staff are fully aware of the request. Details are outlined in the message.”

All students and staff are encouraged to take breaks to de-stress and focus on family and friends.

“As Superintendent, I am encouraging all members of the school community to participate in Family Friendly Friday to begin at the close of school on Friday, March 29 and last throughout the weekend,” an additional message read.

Dr Rodrigue also encouraged families to share photos from their experiences on social media to celebrate Family Friendly Friday.

“Take a walk. Try a new game as a family. Talk to friends. Tour a new park or recreational area. Turn a routine task (like cooking) into a family event. Or… just be together to relax and rejuvenate,” she wrote.
