The Flagpole Radio Café will return to the stage of Edmond Town Hall on Saturday, May 11, at 7 pm, with Grammy Award-winning electro-acoustic violist and composer Martha Mooke the guest performer.

Tickets are $45 and available now at edmondtownhall.ticketleap.com or flagpoleproductions.org.

Martha Mooke (pictured) is a Grammy Award-winning, pioneering electro-acoustic violist/composer, highly regarded for her artistry, music advocacy, and innovative educational programs. She transcends musical boundaries, enhancing classical training with extended techniques, technology, and improvisation.

Mooke is founder and artistic director of the Grammy-winning Scorchio Quartet, featured on David Bowie’s Heathen CD and Carla Patullo’s Grammy-winning album, So She Howls. The quartet also performs as resident quartet in the Tibet House Benefit Concerts at Carnegie Hall produced by Philip Glass.

Mooke has toured with Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli, Peter Gabriel, and Star Wars in Concert; and performed and recorded with David Bowie, Philip Glass, Elton John, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and Tony Bennett, among others.

Mooke has also been a featured speaker at PopTech, SXSW EDU, NAMM/CMS, and numerous podcasts. She received the prestigious ASCAP Concert Music Award for creating and producing ASCAP’s new music showcase Thru The Walls featuring boundary defying composer/performers.

A Yamaha Artist and Eventide’s first Artist in Residence, Mooke created and directs the cutting edge, Multi-Style Strings program at New Jersey City University.

Flagpole Radio Café Producer Martin Blanco has known Mooke for years. They met as undergraduate students at SUNY Albany where she was studying music, he was studying English and theatre, and they both worked at the Performing Arts Center on campus.

“Since then, she has enjoyed a stellar career as a performer, composer, educator, and innovator,” Blanco said. “Not only is Martha an extraordinary artist in her own right, but she has also performed with the finest artists of our time. While I regret that we haven’t seen each other in 39 years, I am delighted that we will have the opportunity to be reacquainted through the show. I can’t wait to see how she ignites the Edmond Town Hall.”

Flagpole Radio Café is an evening of engaging music and compelling comedy performed by an ensemble of local artists and changing guest artists. The ensemble musicians are Jim Allyn, Rick Brodsky, Howie Carlough, Cadence Carroll, and Francine Wheeler, and actors Martin Blanco, Barbara Gaines, Kate Katcher, and David Wheeler.

Edmond Town Hall is at 45 Main Street. For additional information visit flagpoleproductions.org or contact Blanco at 203-520-4562.
