Mary “Maryann” E. Galaburri, age 80, a resident of Newtown, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, March 22.

Mary was born in New York, N.Y., on April 29, 1943, to Mary and Michael Chutka. She spent her childhood years in Manhattan and married at the young age of 20. She moved from New York to North Bergen, N.J. to start a family and eventually moved the family to Connecticut in 1972 where she spent her remaining years.

Mary loved all of nature and the outdoors. She frequently walked her beloved dogs on the trails and parks. She loved to see springtime emerge with fresh blooming flowers. Mary enjoyed spending time with family and made the holidays extra special with her laughter and energy. She was also a huge fan of the Big Band Era and Jazz, often spending a lot of time listening to these genres of music as it brought her much joy. Mary dreamed of singing in a big band and was able to informally sing with a local jazz band a few times.

Mary and her former spouse, Mario Galaburri, had six wonderful children. She is survived by her children: sons Michael Galaburri (Sarah), Mark Galaburri, Matthew Galaburri (Julie), and Martin Galaburri, and her daughters Mary Jo DiCrescenzo (Peter) and Marlene Shaw (John); and her grandchildren Gabrielle, Jasmin, Carly, and Tory.

Mary was predeceased by her brother Jack Cimprich and sister Irene Ameijide.

Mary was loved dearly by her friends and family. Her big smile, infectious laugh, and enchanting spirit will be missed greatly.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mary loved all animals and especially her dogs. If you would like to make a donation in her memory, any donation supporting animals or pets would be welcomed. Suggestions from her family include ASPCA-American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Companion Pet Rescue (Southbury, cprdogs.com) and The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary (Newtown, cvhfoundation.org).
