Board of Education Celebrates Newtown’s Biliterate Students

Newtown High School students who recently earned the Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy were honored at the Board of Education’s April 4 meeting.

Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue explained at the meeting that the students demonstrated a level of proficiency in English and one or more other languages. Forty-three students were recognized at the meeting, and those present stood to be honored. NHS World Language Department Chair Liz Ward announced each student’s name.

Students earning the certificate for Spanish are Michael Arena, Emily Bell, Julia Barnum, Audrey Benson, Ana Caballero, Sienna Cummings, Francesca D’Aprile, Lauren Davis, Claire Dubois, Hudson Fletcher, Bryan Ingwersen, Justin Kahn, Alison Kelleher, Fallyn Kirlin, Brianna Linden, Sofia Marcelli, Jacquelyn Matthews, Caroline Reichmann, Louis Rodriguez, Kendra Saunders, Kiera Sughrue, Declan Sughrue, and Jenny Wadhwa.

Students earning the certificate for French are Hailey Pankow, Leola Amblo, Stephanie Cobb, Katherine Lurie, Simone Paradis, Danika Rasmussen, Shivani Mendiratta, Cailin Blessey, Zachary Marks, Lisa Price, and Sophia Zimmerman.

Yaznael Vazquez earned the English language learner certificate.

Students earning the certificate for Latin are Jack Sullivan, Elizabeth Salley, Jetson Ku, Jackson Kennel, Nina Francesca Soriano, Lily van der Kroef, Kevin Gong, and Annelie Minor.
