Special Olympics Games May 6

SOUTHBURY — Naugatuck High School has been selected as the site for the first Northwest Regional Special Olympics Games, to be held on Sun, May 6. 

The Northwest region includes the areas of Danbury, Litchfield County and Waterbury, which includes Naugatuck. Corinne Cox at Newtown Middle School is the local coordinator.

Recently the Special Olympics committee reorganized its 11 statewide areas into five new regions. The Northwest region is the third of the five regions to be formed, with the Eastern regions targeted for inclusion by the completion of 2003.

The Northwest Regional is expected to draw more than 500 athletes competing in more than 50 events.
