To the Editor::

 On behalf of The Town and Country Club of Newtown, I would like to extend the thanks of all the members to Fred Hurley, head of public works, and Ron Bolmer, project manager, and everyone else who was involved in completing the project that involved installing paving around the island located at Glover Avenue and Route 25.  The paving will make a huge difference in watering the plants on the island since the members have to carry water out to it all summer long.

 We appreciate the fact that the paving is now in place because the garden club will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year and there will be extra special plantings on all three island that we maintain.  It has been our honor to create lovely islands that add to the beauty of Newtown for all these years.

 Club members enjoy working on the islands because people honk and tell us how much they appreciate the maintenance of the beautiful mini landscapes.

 We would also like to mention that our Annual Plant Sale will be once again be held on May 10 in front of the Inn at Newtown (thanks to the Inn owners for allowing us to be there) from 9 am to 3 pm.  We invite people to stop buy and purchase something lovely for Mother's Day or perhaps a special plant for their own gardens.

Sincerely,

Liz Arneth
