Historical Society Summer History Camp

Newtown Historical Society has announced its first summer history camp for children. Nanette Maturi, the camp’s head teacher, will lead the hands-on experience.

Mrs Maturi is a creative, enthusiastic fourth grade teacher and a member of the historical society. She volunteers as a guide/docent and portrayed Mary Elizabeth Hawley in the tercentennial event “Newtown Notables — Gone But Not Forgotten.”

The summer camp will be held July 17–21 at the Matthew Curtiss House on Main Street. The unique camp will explore the life of a Colonial child living in Newtown circa 1750.

Space is limited to ten students, who will investigate what foods children would have eaten, chores they would perform, games they played, etc. The camp is for children ages 7 to 10. Cost is $150 per child.

To reserve a space, send a nonrefundable $25 deposit (which will be applied to the camp fee) along with the child’s name, age, parent or guardian name, address, phone number, and email, if available, to Newtown Historical Society, PO Box 189, Newtown CT 06470. For additional information, call 426-3418 or visit NewtownHistory.org.
