DUI Case

Police report that they responded about 4:16 am on May 6 to an incident that occurred on South Main Street, near Prospect Drive.

Police said motorist Brendan Brooks, 23, of 71 Main Street was driving an unspecified vehicle that struck a utility pole, after which he allegedly left the scene.

Police charged Brooks with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and making a restricted turn. Brooks was released from custody on $300 bail for a May 22 court appearance.

Intersection Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the signal-controlled four-way intersection of Main Street, Sugar Street, South Main Street, and Glover Avenue about 8:34 am on May 3, police report.

In that incident, motorist Donnette Dolzall, 63, of 13 Ridge Road, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai Sonata sedan, stopped for a traffic signal and was then struck from behind by motorist Susan Ehrens, 41, of 23 Flat Swamp Road, who was driving a 2005 Volvo XC-90 SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Ehrens a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

 

Cellphone

Police said they are continuing to seek the owner of a cellphone, which was found on April 7 along Glen Road, near its intersection with Pootatuck Park Road.

The iPhone Apple-brand phone is white and enclosed by a black silicone case, which is enclosed by a silver-glitter hard case, police report.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident took place at the four-way-stop intersection of Taunton Hill Road, Great Hill Road, and Plumtrees Road at about 8:24 am on May 1.

Police said that motorist Susan Ross, 65, of Plainview, N.Y., who was driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander SUV southward on Taunton Hill Road, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck motorist Robert Wenick, 54, of 15 Ashford Lane, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Great Hill Road.

There were no injuries. Police said Ross was issued a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Evading

Police report that following an investigation, at about 3 pm on May 1 they charged motorist Jason Lamonte, 21, of 67 Osborn Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Legacy sedan, in connection with a preceding collision with a curbside residential mailbox 40 Osborn Hill Road.

Police report they charged Lamonte with evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and driving without a license. Police said they released Lamonte on a written promise to appear on May 15 in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Accident

Motorist Denise Anderson, 60, of Danbury, who was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent sedan northward on South Main Street near Botsford Lane at about 5:20 pm on May 1, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by northbound driver Richard Danise II, 48, of 4 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Kenworth K-90 truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave trucker Danise a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Four MV Charges

While conducting traffic enforcement about 10:20 pm on April 29 near 45 Main Street, police stopped motorist Thomas Bothur, Jr, 43, of Danbury, because the Hyundai that he was driving did not have rear-marker plate illumination.

After investigating, police charged Bothur with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate, misuse of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police released Bothur on $100 bail for a May 14 court appearance.

Found Item

Police said this week that they are holding for safekeeping an item which was found on April 20 in the parking lot at 6 Queen Street, the location of Newtown Shopping Village.

A red ax, which is used for splitting logs, was found lying against a fire hydrant there, police said. The owner may claim the ax at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Wills Road

Police said that the owner of a house on Wills Road reported to them on May 4 that the house had been burglarized sometime between April 20 and May 4. Wills Road is a residential street that links South Main Street to Orchard Hill Road. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Two Warrants

After learning that police held two warrants for his arrest, Joao A. Dasilva, Jr, 28, of Danbury went to the police station about 8 pm on April 30 and was charged with first-degree failure to appear in court, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft, and credit card crime, police said

Also, Newtown police arrested Dasilva on a Bethel police warrant that charges him with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving under suspension, and using improper rear marker plate illumination.

After processing, police released Dasilva on $21,000 bail for a May 14 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police report that after watching motorist Nelson Nieves, 45, of Bridgeport cross the road’s center lines several times while negotiating a curve, they stopped him near 130 Mt Pleasant Road about 1:07 am on May 4 to investigate the problem.

Police said they charged motorist Nieves with driving under the influence and with failure to keep to the right on a curve.

Following processing, police released Nieves on $400 bail for a May 21 court appearance.

Vehicle Damaged

Sometime between 3:30 and 10 pm on May 1, someone, who was driving an unknown white-colored vehicle, struck and damaged an unoccupied 2006 Subaru Impreza while it was parked in front of the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25), police said.

Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Simm Lane and South Main Street about 3:51 pm on April 26.

The collision involved motorist Daisy Young, 17, of 29 Ashford Lane, who was driving a 2010 Subaru, and motorist Daniel Marsh, 46, of 5 Fallen Leaf Lane, who was driving a 2005 GMC, police report.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Marsh to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Young received an infraction for unsafe movement, police said.

Wasserman Way

While motorist Pamela Mulrane, 65, of 22 Mountain Laurel Lane, who was driving a 2005 Honda CRV SUV, was waiting in traffic on Wasserman Way at about 4 pm on May 3, the Honda was struck from behind by motorist Victor Stendbergh, 25, of 7 Sugar Street, who was driving a 1999 Buick Century sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Stendbergh for following too closely.

Walnut Tree Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Ford Road, about 7:15 pm on May 5.

Police said motorist Nadine Ferreri, 18, of Vernon, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV northward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by John Carney, 23, of 6 Shepaug Road, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet wrecker.

Ferreri was transported to the hospital to be checked for neck pain, police said.

Police said they charged Carney with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and with driving with a suspended license. Police released Carney on a written promise to appear in court on May 21.

Highway Crash

About 8:45 pm on May 1, motorist Herculano Amaral, 44, of New Milford, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westward on Interstate 84 about one-half mile east of Exit 10, struck motorist Benito Chacho-Urvina, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse, state police said.

Both vehicles then spun out of control and struck nearby bridge walls, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported both drivers to Danbury Hospital on complaints of pain, state police said.

Amaral received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane, according to state police.

Interstate Collision

At about 5:37 pm on April 30, motorist Silvia Mideros, 37, of Watertown, who was driving a 2002 BMW 325-XI eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9, slowed for traffic and was struck from behind by motorist Brittney Stout, 24, of Danbury, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Arrested

After learning that Newtown police held a warrant for his arrest, Alexander Tamas, 23, of 32 Washbrook Road turned himself over to police at the police station about 1:36 pm on May 6, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, traveling too fast, and driving under suspension.

Newtown police said the arrest stems from a past incident that occurred in Trumbull. Tamas was released on $500 bail for a May 20 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Drug Arrest

Police report that after investigating a complaint on the afternoon of May 3, they charged Scott Morgan, 34, of Milford with possession of cocaine and with possession of drug paraphernalia. After processing the arrest, police released Morgan on $500 bail for a May 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Eyeglasses

Police report that on May 4, a pair of brightly colored prescription eyeglasses was found near 10 Old Mill Road in Sandy Hook. Police are holding the eyeglasses for safekeeping and ask the owner to claim them by identifying them at the police station.

Intersection

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the offset four-way intersection of South Main Street, Mile Hill Road, and Country Club Road at about 4 pm on May 6.

Police report that motorist Kyle Corcoran, 35, of Stratford, who was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer SUV, was traveling southward on South Main Street, as motorist Kimba Carpenter, 48, of 19 Parmalee Hill Road was driving a 2011 Mazda 3 sedan northward on South Main Street.

The Mazda attempted to turn left onto Country Club Road, but collided with the Ford, police said.

Ambulance staffers responded to the scene to evaluate a pain complaint from Carpenter, police said.

Police said Carpenter received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Burglary/Larceny

Sometime between 10 am on Saturday, May 4, and 11 pm on Tuesday, May 7, someone made a forced entry into a condominium unit on Copper Creek Circle at Riverview Condominiums, off Bryan Lane, police said.

The intruder stole items including jewelry and electronic devices.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Honda Vs Mercedes

About 8:52 am on May 8, motorist Michael Riccio, 51, of 4 Purdy Station Road, who was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV eastward on Mile Hill Road, was attempting to turn left onto northbound Queen Street when the Mercedes was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Miles Aldrich, 21, of 4 Longview Terrace, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord coupe, police report.

There were no injuries. Aldrich received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.
