Blumenfeld Added To Gate House Concert Series

SOUTHBURY — Master teaching artist and former Connecticut state troubadour Hugh Blumenfeld will be at The Gate House Coffee House for a free concert on Sunday, July 7, at 3 pm. The Gate House is on Route 172 on the grounds of Southbury Training School. Concerts are outdoors, but move under a pavilion in the event of rain; signs are posted.

Mr Blumenfeld’s songs range from romantic ballads to biting satire. The Boston Globe has described his work as “words and music full of passion and poetry,” while DJ/presented Ed McKeon has called him “as sharp a political and social satirist as any songwriter writing today.”

Mr Blumenfeld has performed across the United States and abroad, with recent tours in Europe and Israel. He is a three-time New Folk finalist at Kerrville Folk Festival. He has also played festival mainstages as Kerrville, Falcon Ridge, New York Music Festival, Two Harbors (Minn.), and Martha’s Vineyard Summer Retreat.

He has released four albums on the independent Prime CD label – The Strong in Spirit (1988), Barehanded (1993), Mozart’s Money (1996) and Rocket Science (1998) – all of which have garnered media awards. Last year he released Big Red, an album for European distribution on the Swiss Brambus label and Mr Jekyll & Dr Hyde, a self-produced collection of political songs at www.mp3.com.

Bring blankets or low lawn chairs for seating. Contact Julie Andring Morgan or Meg Capen at 203-586-2144 for additional information on the Blumenfeld concert or additional concerts in the summer 2002 coffee house series.
