With just a few days left to prepare for the 2019 Newtown Day celebration, Chamber of Commerce organizers, along with staff from Newtown Parks & Recreation, were putting final touches on the event’s schedule and tying up the few remaining loose ends before opening the gates for an anticipated crowd of several thousand expected to converge at Fairfield Hills, Saturday, July 27.

Anyone planning to attend for any length of time should plan for maximum fun and comfort by packing their lawn chairs and bringing their appetites, organizers told The Newtown Bee.

This year’s Newtown Day (#NewtownDay2019) runs from 11 am to 8 pm, and will feature several talented live musical acts showcasing multiple styles, along with more than 20 food trucks and food tents selling fare and soft drinks to satisfy any palate.

Musical Director Grant Ossendryver and Newtown Day’s official Master of Ceremonies John Voket will keep the guest information and entertainment flowing — welcoming Samantha Murtha, who will be kicking off the program at about 11:55 am with the National Anthem, followed immediately by a set from the local band Sound Beacon.

Long River Jam will mix rock and country from 2 to 3:30 pm, ahead of a set from Accidental Breakdown hitting the stage at 4 pm combining classic rock, college radio, New Orleans rock, and funk with classic roots reggae and blues into a unique sound experience. The Renegades close out Newtown Day from 6 to 7:30 pm, as these four high school bandmates reunite for a set of energized party rock favorites.

Throughout the day, adults can take a break and bend an elbow at the Newtown Day Brew Garden in between perusing at least 35 supportive vendors who will be onsite displaying their wares, services, and information.

Chamber spokesperson Helen Brickfield has compiled a list of the seven most frequently asked questions about this year’s Newtown Day, which are answered below:

Is Newtown Day just for people who live in Newtown?

No, Newtown Day is a public event, and everyone we can fit on the site is welcome from anywhere. Just plan to bring a lawn chair if you plan to stay for the day so you can relax while enjoying the music, food, beverages, and vendors.

No, Newtown Day is being exclusively presented in partnership between the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown and the Newtown Parks & Recreation Department.

Can I buy admission tickets online?

No, tickets are only available at the gate and can be purchased with cash (preferred) or credit/debit card. Two ATMs will be available as well (with supplemental service charges for withdrawals). Admission for any person age 12 and older is $3.

Are all the children’s activities and attractions free with admission?

No. While most kids activities are free, some attractions, like inflatables, will require a separate charge for admission.

Can I bring my dog?

No. Unless a visitor arrives with a certified service or support animal, no dogs or pets of any kind are allowed. (Only pre-authorized vendors may enter the grounds with dogs.)

Can I park right at Fairfield Hills?

Only as space permits. Overflow site parking is available until full at Reed Intermediate School. Satellite parking with free regular shuttle service is available at Newtown Middle School. The first shuttle departs NMS at 10:45 am, and the last shuttle back to NMS leaves Fairfield Hills at 8:15 pm sharp.

Attendees are requested to share a ride if possible, and drop-offs are encouraged. Please respect and follow any directives from onsite parking attendants and Newtown police.

Can I just bring my own picnic food, or bottled water?

There is no outside food or beverages permitted at Newtown Day. The event will feature multiple food and beverage vendors supplying various types of cuisine, desserts, soft drinks, and water. Adults with proper ID can also access the Beer Garden.
