On Saturday, August 20, the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company's newly expanded and renovated fire substation at 249 Berkshire Road (Route 34) will be open to the public, from 11 am to 2 pm, for tours.

A spacious two-bay garage has been added to the rear of the original substation for fire vehicle storage. Space at the substation that was formerly used for fire vehicle storage has been renovated and now serves as an office, day room, kitchenette, a shower, a second rest room, and auxiliary storage space.

At noon, local officials will speak on the improvement project. Refreshments will be served.

A plaque will be unveiled honoring the late Richard "Porky" Andrews, a longtime fire company member who was instrumental in building the fire substation in the late 1960s.
