For those who wonder what to do with edible flowers in their garden, or even wonder if flowers they think are edible are truly safe to eat, Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown’s first program of the 2018-19 season will help.

Gini Mita will be in town for a free presentation on Wednesday, September 12. The program will be at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road. It will begin at 6:30 pm.

The title of Ms Mita’s PowerPoint presentation is “Cooking, Baking, and Garnishing with Herbs and Edible Flowers.”

Although she will gear her program primarily toward cooking, baking, and garnishing with fresh herbs and edible flowers, Ms Mita will also provide information on where such plants can be grown in personal landscape, how to grow them, when to harvest them, and how to store them for future use.

Ms Mita maintains her own extensive perennial herb and edible flower gardens. She is an organic gardener and grows many of her plants from seed, many of them heirloom varieties.

She is a past president of Wallingford Garden Club and has done many presentations for garden clubs across the state.

All are welcome to join the Town & Country Garden Club for their programs. Programs are always free and open to the public.

Future meeting-program evenings include October 10, with guest speaker Ceil Rossi presenting “From Field to Fine Art — A lecture on the history, culture, and art of gourds”; and November 14, with Trish Manfredi presenting “Flower Arranging for the Holidays: Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, & Christmas.”

Gini Mita will present the first program of the season for Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown, on September 12.
