Occupation: I am part owner, manager, and muck-shoveler of Windover Farm. My husband and I bought the property four years ago. I think we were a little crazy — it was not in the best state. It has been a huge project with a lot of work. It was originally the Botsford Farm and was bought in 1940 by Harold Mack. It is clear that we were drawn to the property in the same way he was. He did an incredible renovation on the house and spared no expense. We had the very optimistic idea that we could bring the property back to its former glory and return it to agricultural use.

Family: My husband Peter works for Cigna Health Insurance in Bloomfield. We have two daughters. Claudia started at Penn State on August 13 — she is our quirky scientist. Lydia is a junior at Newtown High School. She is a band kid and is the section leader for tenor sax. Both Peter’s and my family are in the UK.

Pets: We have three cats, a dog, three horses, and three chickens. Outside of that, we have thousands of bees, six sheep, and a llama. We also look after cows, and essentially board them, spring through late fall.

How long have you lived in Newtown? For 14 years. We moved from England to the outskirts of Dallas, Texas, for five years. Both our kids were born there. Then Peter’s job moved up here. We lived on the Brookfield side of Newtown then by pure chance all the planets aligned, so we could purchase the property where we are living in today.

What do you like to do in your free time? There is always something that needs to be done, but I could not ever have chosen a job that I love more. So free time and my job are one in the same. But I do campaign for the family to get away together when we can.

Do you have a favorite author? F. Scott Fitzgerald is an author I read while still in the UK. I’ve read everything — including letters — that he’s ever written. My favorite book by him is Tender Is The Night.

What is your favorite travel destination? Scotland. We had the opportunity to go back there last year. It rains nearly every day, but it’s a magical place.

What is the best part about Newtown? People in town understand the importance of personal connection and give their time. It’s a bit like when you throw a party: you can have the best location and the best food, but your party either flies or dies by the guests that you invite. Of all the things that make Newtown special, ultimately when you follow it down, it’s the people. People like Eunice [Laverty of Bagel Delight] — she takes care of you. There are millions of places you can eat, but when you go there or My Place or Tambascio’s, you get warmth, hospitality, and you become part of a family.

Where do you draw inspiration? Old farmers. What amazing people. They worked with the environment to achieve their goals. They had a practical intelligence, a closeness/knowledge of nature, and skills that are lost to us today — to understand, just read an Eric Sloane book.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? My family. I love them, and I miss my kid already. It hit home that things have changed. Time together is really, really precious.

Who is your favorite musical artist? I love the music from when I was younger, like The Rolling Stones. One of the greatest moments was when one of the kids piped up in the car and said “The Stones are really great!” I knew I’d done my job.

What is your personal philosophy? Your life is for living. You don’t get a second chance. Sometimes you’ve got to do something that makes no logical sense because you really, really want it.

What is something you cannot live without? Cadbury chocolate.

What is your proudest accomplishment? No question — our girls. They will always be my proudest accomplishment.
