Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC Inc, continues its 50th anniversary celebration with the introduction of its 31st annual pewter Christmas ornament.

This year, the club has chosen to honor “Newtown’s Five Fire Companies.” With a Maltese Cross as the centerpiece of this year’s design, the design includes the names of each of the town’s companies: Botsford, Dodgingtown, Hawleyville, Hook & Ladder, and Sandy Hook.

Town Historian Daniel Cruson has again researched and written a brief history of the five organizations. A copy of Mr Cruson’s essay is included with each ornament, which is enclosed in a sturdy plastic box. The ornaments are crafted by Woodbury Pewter in Woodbury.

The double-sided ornament is $15 and will go on sale Monday, September 3, during the Newtown Labor Day Parade. The woman’s club traditionally has a table set up in front of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

Proceeds from the sale of this ornament will be donated to local civic organizations.

After Labor Day, the ornament will also be available for purchase at C.H. Booth Library; the office of The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road; the office of the Town Clerk, within Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street; and The Toy Tree, 14 Church Hill Road.

Pat Bailey (203-426-3287) and Lisa Goosman (203-426-4192) continue to serve as co-chairs of the Woman’s Club fundraiser. Contact either woman for additional information.
