HINDU ART AT LORA ROBINS GALLERY TO OPEN SEPT. 19

AVV 8-1 #708087

RICHMOND, VA. — “The Sacred and the Sensuous: Hindu Art from the Collection” will be on view September 19–June 29 in the Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature.

This exhibition is a selection of Hindu art from the museum’s permanent collection, and it features temple panels, carvings, textiles and bronzes created over several centuries. The works highlight the stories from sacred texts and represent the diverse ritual and religious practices of the Hindu faith in the Indian subcontinent.

Organized by the University of Richmond Museums, the exhibition’s curators are Richard Waller, executive director, University Museums, and Kristen Malanoski, history and art history double major, University of Richmond, and Arts and Sciences 2007 Summer Research Fellow in University Museums.

The Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature is in a separate wing of the Boatwright Memorial Library with its entrance on Richmond Way. For more information, www.museums.richmond.edu or 804-289-8276.
