Berkshire Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 43 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook about 7 am September 21.

The crash involved a 2006 Ford sedan driven by Eva Cerreta, 16, of Bennetts Bridge Road, and a 2002 Honda station wagon driven by Paul Stanton, 54, of Charter Ridge Drive, according to police.

In the mishap, the westbound Honda stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by the westbound Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Ceretta an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Moving Violations

Police report that at about 2:50 pm September 22, they stopped motorist Michael Lathrope, 41, of New Milford on Queen Street because the vehicle that he was driving was unregistered.

After investigating, police charged Lathrope with driving an unregistered vehicle and with driving while under suspension.

After processing, police released Lathrope on $250 bail for an October 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

About 6:20 pm September 22, motorist Victor Siguenza, 26, of Danbury was traveling westward on Wasserman Way and then turned left to enter the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84 without using his turn signal, so police stopped him to investigate.

After investigating, police charged Siguenza with driving under the influence and with failure to use a turn signal.

After processing, police released Siguenza on $100 bail for an October 10 court appearance.

Motor Vehicle Charges

Police said they spotted motorist Nixon DeSouza Moronare, 31, of Bridgeport driving westward near 29 Church Hill Road about 8 pm September 20 with a defective headlamp on his vehicle, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Moronare with driving a vehicle with a defective headlamp, driving a vehicle without a license, and driving a vehicle with a suspended registration.

Moronare posted $100 bail and was released for a October 5 court appearance.

Chevrolet Vs Deer

About 6:40 pm September 22, motorist Edward Cullen, 22, of Wilton was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu sedan westward on Mt Pleasant Road when a deer entered the road and collided with the auto, police said. Cullen was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

DUI Incident

Police said they went to the parking lot of the Villa Restaurant at 4 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook Center about 9:15 pm September 25, after learning that a motor vehicle accident had occurred there.

Police said motorist Deborah Fitzsimmons, 50, of Monroe had backed out of a parking space and struck a parked vehicle.

After investigating, police charged her with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interfering with police.

During the course of the incident, Dennis Fitzsimmons, 64, of Southbury, who is Deborah Fitzsimmon’s husband, arrived at the scene, police said. Police said they charged Dennis Fitzsimmons with interfering with police.

Police released Dennis Fitzsimmons on $1,000 bail for an October 11 court appearance. Police held Deborah Fitzsimmons on $10,000 bail for a September 26 court appearance.

Scooter

On September 22, a silver-colored Roadstar-brand child’s scooter was found alongside the street near 160 Mt Pleasant Road. Police are holding the scooter for safekeeping. The owner should contact Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841, to claim the scooter.

Ford vs Mazda

Police report a two-vehicle collision near 57 Mt Pleasant Road about 10 am September 21.

Westbound motorist Francisco Viera of Prospect, who was driving a 1998 Mazda 626, slowed and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Stephanie Mastri of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Mastri a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Acura Vs Toyota

While traveling westward near 69 Berkshire Road in heavy stop-and-go traffic at about 7:45 am September 19, motorist Betty Check, 68, of 19 Paugussett Road, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry, stopped for traffic conditions, and was struck from behind by westbound motorist Lori Schmalkuche, 41, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Acura MDX, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Schmalkuche for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Flagpole Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Main Street flagpole intersection at about 5:15 pm September 26.

Police said the collision involved motorist Jeffrey Kane, 38, of Shelton, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry southward on Main Street, and motorist Brent Culligan, 25, of Oxford, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee westward on Church Hill Road.

There were no injuries. Police issued Kane a written warning for passing on the right.

DUI Arrest

Police said they received a report about 2:45 am on September 28 that there was a suspicious vehicle on Riverside Road, between its intersections with Timber Mill Road and Bancroft Road, so they went to the area to investigate.

After investigating, police charged motorist Daniel Trentacoste, 25, of New Preston with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Police said they held Trentacoste on $1,000 bail for a court appearance later that day.

Three Charges

On September 27, police charged motorist Salman Z. Nomani, 22, of Trumbull with failure to drive to the right on a curve, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Details on the incident were not available before the deadline for this edition of The Newtown Bee. Police released Nomani on a written promise to appear in court on October 12.
