Police Explorers Seeking To Expand Membership

Newtown Police Explorer Post #823 is seeking to enlist new members.

The post is an organization affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, which has as its members males and females from ages 13 through 21 who are interested in law enforcement, providing assistance for the Newtown Police Department.

The post participates in police-related competitions. It also assists police with traffic control at special events. Post members provide security services at Edmond Town Hall and also accompany police on ride-alongs in patrol cruisers during which they learn about police operations.

The Explorers meet on alternate Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm in the lower level of Town Hall South at 3 Main Street. Participation in the group is free. The post is registered with the Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Educational Association.

The Explorers are provided with uniforms and with certain police-related equipment.
