Adelaide M. Marek, 86, of Brookfield died peacefully October 27, surrounded by her family. She was born in New York City on August 27, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Georgina (Dougherty) and Colonel Joseph W.  Morgan.

She had been a part-time mail carrier and part-time journalist for the Brookfield Journal and The Newtown Bee.

Her greatest joy was her family. Her children, US Army veteran Adelaide of Danbury, William and spouse, Raul, of New York City, Georgina and spouse, Kenny, of New York, US Marine veteran Peter of Rockville, R.I., and Theresa and spouse, Shawn, of Brookfield; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Maddy, Billy, Mark, and Melissa, survive her. She is also survived by her brother, Bruce J. Morgan, and spouse, Miriam, of Mt Prospect, Ill.; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Ferri of New Hyde Park; and her brother-in-law, Robert Marek of Astoria, N.Y.; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Her husband, William J., who died in 1989, and her daughter, Elizabeth, who died in the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, predeceased her.

As her niece remembered "through all the ups and downs she kept going and never lost her devotion to her family and all that is good in the world. I think that she always believed in the best side of human nature."

Friends and family will be received at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, and are welcome to pay their respects on Wednesday, November 2, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, vote.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 3, at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Brookfield. Burial will follow at St Peter's Cemetery in Danbury.
