PORTLAND MUSEUM OF ART PRESENTS ALFREDO JAAR LECTURE ON DEC. 4

AVV 11-19 #720065

PORTLAND, MAINE — The Portland Museum of Art will present the Nelson Fund for Social Justice Lecture with artist Alfredo Jaar on Tuesday, December 4, at 6:30 pm, at Hannaford Lecture Hall at the University of Southern Maine, 88 Bedford Street.

Jaar’s work makes people aware of art, suffering and injustice. An artist, architect and filmmaker, his work and how it is expressed takes many forms as he strives to encourage public responsibility. As the viewer is saturated with images and assaulted with information, Jaar believes it urgent for one to engage.

Recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1985 and a MacArthur Fellowship in 2000, his work connects one more fully with the world. This lecture is made possible by the Nelson Fund for Social Justice at the Portland Museum of Art, which honors those artists whose commitment to social justice is manifested in their work.

The museum is downtown at the corner of High and Congress Streets. For information, www.portlandmuseum.org or 207-775-6148.
