Newtown’s free, nonprofit medical clinic will conduct its 11th annual major fundraiser this weekend.

The public is invited to join Kevin’s Community Center Inc (KCC) for Music, Merlot, and Mums, a community gathering featuring wine tasting, live music, and local fare, on Saturday, December 1, from 4 to 7 pm, at Newtown Country Club, 2 Country Club Road in Newtown.

Music will be provided by South Lake Jazz Trio, and there will be an array of tantalizing wines to taste, provided by Nick’s Chilled and Distilled. A silent auction will also be held with such items as gift certificates from fine area restaurants and gift baskets, along with a ticket raffle for smaller prizes.

Tickets are $45 per person. They are available at the medical clinic, 25 Commerce Road, and will also be sold at the door.

All proceeds will benefit KCC, a nonprofit, free medical clinic founded in 2002 by Dr Z. Michael Taweh and his family, in memory of his son Kevin. The mission is to provide free primary health care for persons over the age of 18 who are uninsured or underinsured and have limited financial resources.

This past year, KCC realized its long-held dream in Kevin’s spirit of opening a distinct Kevin’s Community Center facility. The organization is hoping to expand its services and offerings to better meet the needs of those it serves. To that end, KCC staff and supporters are planning to fit out the remaining 3,500 square feet of the building as community outreach and program space, which requires additional support.

Located at 25 Commerce Road, Kevin’s Community Center currently serves all towns covered by the Newtown Health District, which includes Newtown, Bridgewater, and Roxbury. Hours of operation are every Wednesday from 1 to 5 pm, for residents who are uninsured or underinsured.

The clinic also provides yoga, open to the entire community, on Saturdays.
