  • Fire Reports August 29 - September 4, 2013

    The dispatchers at the Newtown Emergency Communications Center at 3 Main Street report the following fire calls and the responders:

     

    Thursday, August 29: 6:05 pm, motor vehicle accident, near 348 South Main Street, Botsford responded; 9:16 pm, investigation, near intersection of Evergreen Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road, Sandy Hook responded.

    Friday, August 30: 7:43 pm, alarm, 118 Waterview Drive, Sandy Hook responded.

  • Quilts From the Heart

    New Fairfield High School sophomore Kaitlyn Gantert, left, holds up the quilt created for Emilie Parker’s family, and sponsored by Consolidated Elementary School. Her mother, Tricia Gantert, displays the quilt for Victoria Soto’s family, sponsored by Chiropractic Life and Wellness in New Fairfield. Brightly colored bags surround them, filled with 24 more quilts for families who lost a loved one on 12/14.

  • Vandals Smash Auto Glass in Sandy Hook Spree

    Police report a vandalism spree happened during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 18, when someone intentionally damaged motor vehicles that were either parked in driveways or parked on roads near homes in Sandy Hook.

    Police received the first call about vehicular vandalism from a Founders Lane resident at 3:11 am Sunday.

    Other areas where such vandalism occurred include Far Horizon Drive, Bennetts Bridge Road, Charter Ridge Drive,  Paugussett Road, Jeremiah Road, and Clapboard Ridge Road, police said.

  • Monument From Maine— Sandy Hook Church Field Will Host ‘Rock Of Angels’

    Rock of Angels was loaded onto a 63-foot flatbed truck last week and driven to Sullivan, Me. It will begin its trip south on Saturday, stopping in Hartford on Sunday for a special event, and will arrive in Newtown on Monday, August 12. The monument’s placement in a small field behind St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook will offer a quiet, permanent place for anyone who wants to pay their respects to those killed on 12/14.

    Thursday, August 1: 2:45 pm, wires down, near intersection of Hanover Road and Lake Road, Hook & Ladder responded.

  • Sandy Hook Man Sentenced In Massachusetts DUI Fatality

    PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Thursday, August 1, a Sandy Hook man was sentenced by a Berkshire Superior Court judge to serve 15 to 18 years in state prison, after the man pleaded guilty to nine charges stemming from a February 2012 multi-vehicle drunken driving accident in which a 24-year-old Sheffield, Mass., woman was killed.

    Friday, July 26: 6:51 am, wires down, near 120 Currituck Road, Hawleyville responded; 3:02 pm, alarm, 10 Daniels Hill Road, Hook & Ladder and Hawleyville responded.

  • The Governor Takes A Tour Of Sandy Hook Center

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s arrived in Sandy Hook Wednesday morning for a walking tour of the business district in the village center. First Selectman Pat Llodra was waiting to guide him along the new sidewalks there and the two barely had time to greet each other before they were surrounded by news crews, cameras, and microphones. The questions began.
